In celebration of Hollywood’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, the 30th anniversary of the release of A Dry White Season and the 35th anniversary of the release of Sugar Cane Alley, the Caribbean Heritage Organization (CHO) is pleased to pay a special tribute during the 2019 CaribbeanLens International Film Festival-Where Hollywood Celebrates the Caribbean™ and the Salute to Hollywood & Excellence awards gala to Martinique’s Euzhan Palcy, the director of these two ground-breaking films.
Among her many firsts, Euzhan Palcy is the:
  • First Black woman to direct a film produced by a major motion picture studio (A Dry White Season – MGM)
  • First female director to receive the César Award (Sugar Cane Alley)
  • First black director to receive the César Award (Sugar Cane Alley)
  • Only woman to direct Marlon Brando (A Dry White Season)
CHO invites you to join us, our friends and the Hollywood community at the Historic Sid Grauman’s Egyptian Theater and the Writers Guild Theater as we celebrate Caribbean films and filmmakers and this trailblazing icon.
